Little Free Libraries

On 24 September, members of the Presidents' Club Youth Section completed their annual public project for the 2025/2026 season by installing two little free libraries in central Sofia. One stands in the pedestrian area on the bridge where Yanko Sakazov Boulevard meets Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi Boulevard. The other is on Vasil Levski Boulevard, next to the public transport stop opposite the entrance to the Sofia High School of Mathematics. Anyone can take a book, as long as they leave another in its place.
Members, friends and guests of the Presidents' Club attended the symbolic opening. So did Mr Bozhidar Emanuilov, Deputy Mayor of Oborishte District, who supported the initiative and helped make it happen.
Mr Dimitar Velkov, President of the Youth Section, said:
'In a world where information reaches us in seconds, reading remains one of the few activities that teach us to pause, to think and to listen.
'A book is more than words on a page. It is a conversation with someone we will probably never meet, but whose thoughts can change the way we see life. Through literature, we travel through different eras, encounter different lives and discover something new about ourselves.
'Reading builds not only our knowledge but also our ability to understand others. It teaches us empathy and patience. At a time when we often talk a lot but rarely truly listen, these qualities are especially valuable.
'That is why books deserve a place in our everyday lives, not just as a source of information but as a space for reflection, imagination and humanity.
'Every good book leaves behind more than a memory. It leaves a question, a thought or a feeling that lives on inside us.'
